Best in Show: Decanter’s top award for Single Vineyard Gualtallary Malbec 2021

Among more than 17,000 wines tasted blind at the Decanter World Wine Awards, the Single Vineyard Gualtallary Malbec 2021 was distinguished with the Best in Show, the highest award given by the prestigious British publication. This mention places Rutini’s wine among the best in the world and celebrates the extraordinary potential of the Argentine terroir to create world-class reds.
Mariano Di Paola, winemaker in charge of Rutini Wines, shared his words of gratitude: “It is an honor for me to receive this distinction from Decanter (…) it is a pleasure to be able to share this with the entire work team: from the vineyard, the winery and all the other sectors until we reach the consumers’ table”.
The Best in Show category is extremely selective: only wines that pass multiple rounds of evaluation -first receiving a Gold medal, then a Platinum medal- until they reach this final step, reserved for less than 1% of the labels presented. Exceptional wines are awarded for their quality, balance, typicity and cellaring capacity.
The essence of the Uco Valley: Single Vineyard Gualtallary Malbec 2021
Single Vineyard Gualtallary Malbec 2021 is a true reflection of its origin: an estate located 1,180 meters above sea level in the heart of the Uco Valley. This wine is born from the desire to tell a story of place with total authenticity. Purple in color with garnet hues, it displays intense aromas of cherries, plums and blueberries, with delicate floral undertones.
The palate is balanced, fresh and persistent. Its 12-month aging in French oak (50% new barrels and 50% second use) contributes subtle spicy notes of pepper, vanilla, bitter cocoa and tobacco, enhancing its complexity without overshadowing the varietal expression. The wine’s structure and concentration give it a cellaring potential of at least 15 years.
A vision of precision: Rutini Single Vineyard line
Since its launch in 2015, Rutini Single Vineyard has embodied an artisanal and meticulous approach to making wines of origin. Each label is sourced from a single vineyard in the Uco Valley, one of the world’s most prestigious terroirs for high-end winemaking. Vineyards such as Gualtallary and Altamira offer exceptional conditions for unique profiles of full-bodied, vibrant freshness, pronounced floral and mineral notes, and intense red fruit.
The concept is simple and powerful: one varietal, one vineyard, one unique expression. Behind each bottle there is a constant search to capture the unrepeatable identity of a place. With this international distinction, Single Vineyard Gualtallary Malbec 2021 is consolidated as an icon wine, and as a new emblem of Argentine wine in the world.
